Electrostatic protection in electronic workshop

Electrostatic protection and control is not only a problem of matching anti-static products, but also a systematic work. It involves the manufacturing, assembly, processing, inspection, test, maintenance, packaging, transportation, storage, use and other links of sensitive electronic products, and it is a series mode. The fault in any link will lead to the failure of the whole protection work. It needs to establish a complete protection system including design, operation, inspection, internal audit, training, etc. under strict standards and specifications. The work may involve all relevant departments.
First, define the electrostatic sensitive area; in this area, the company's electrostatic control procedures must be followed and implemented. This includes non portable electrostatic materials such as general plastic products and polystyrene foam.
A better way to reduce static electricity generation is to minimize unnecessary insulating material objects in the work area. (insulating material cannot conduct electricity. It is a source of high static electricity and a person with static electricity and is easy to generate static electricity field.)
In order to prevent the generation of static electricity and static electricity field, appropriate protective measures must be taken in the working area, such as conductive floor, conductive wax, etc.; personnel must wear static electricity shoes with static electricity dissipating material sole and anti-static clothing. In particular, plastic parts of metal tools are not allowed in the electrostatic protection zone.  Soldering irons, tin absorbers, test instruments, etc. shall be designed with special and safe anti-static devices. Unauthorized equipment shall not be carried into the protection area.
Second, avoid loose and hanging clothing accessories touching sensitive components - keep the distance between electrostatic sensitive components and clothing more than 6 inches (15 cm).
The common misconception is that high humidity can solve the problem of static electricity, so it is not correct to consider other ways to reduce the generation of static electricity. Although high humidity can reduce the static electricity generated to the point that the human body cannot touch and sense it, it is still enough to damage sensitive components. The correct idea is that high humidity can inhibit the generation of static electricity, while low humidity is the opposite.
Always pay attention to the electrostatic safety protection area signs in the working environment. If you enter these areas, you should follow the electrostatic protection procedures established by the company, including isolating all people or objects that may generate static electricity from the protection area.
And check and confirm that all sensitive components passing through the electrostatic protection area are attached with appropriate and obvious electrostatic protection signs; however, components without signs shall not be identified as electrostatic safety objects.
Although it can judge which devices are electrostatic sensitive, it is a good habit to regard all electronic components and assembly actions as electrostatic sensitive.  It's easier to maintain strict electrostatic protection for all components you handle and regard it as a routine routine work than to make different treatment according to different properties of individual components.
